All language subtitles for 12. Formating The Ebook From Docx Format to Epub & KDP Format For Kindle Readers

Hello there, everybody, and welcome back into this lecture.

So in this lecture, what you're going to be learning for the most part is how to format your book in

a PDF format and epub format using an app that is actually given to you for free to install by Amazon.

So Amazon made this possible to make it as easy as possible for people to self publish books.

And so you have to understand that for the most part people are not reading books on their computers,

they're using tablets, they're using iPhones mostly they're using devices, phone devices, small devices.

And so there might be reading the book on a commute from their work to home or from work to home or

whatever.

And so in order for you to make sure that your book is really readable very, very well on these devices,

you have to make sure that you format the book.

And so Amazon Create or Amazon Kindle create as an app that you can download for free.

All you need to do is to search for Amazon Kindle, create on Google, access the link and download

it for PC or Mac, whichever device of your choosing is the best.

Now, once you do that, you can open the app and once here on the app you have to also understand that

the app is a little bit slow, right?

So if it gets slow on, you understand that that's not bad.

Now, there are two ways that you can add a table of contents to your book, so you can either add the

table of contents directly from here in the Google Doc manuscript, or you can wait until you upload

the book without a table of contents and add the table of contents as you go on the Kindle Create app,

which I think is the best option to be honest, because otherwise Jeff Bezos wouldn't have made this

app possible.

Now, for the paperback and the hardcover part, it is better to add the table of contents here in the

Google doc because for the paperback and the hardcover books, the manuscript needs to be in PDF.

And if I go, for instance, here in my dossier, you can see that this is the PDF, it's six by nine

and this is for paperback as well as hardcover.

But as far as the other type or the e-book, it's in PDF format and in Epub format.

And the way you do this is by using Kindle Create.

So let's go ahead right now.

And first of all, I need to show you how to add the table of contents on Google Doc just in case you

want to add it and put your eBook with a table of contents.

And if you don't want to add the table of contents inside of Kindle, create.

But you want to do it here.

Now let's give you that option.

Click here on Insert.

Once you do that, you can see here that there is a table of contents, right?

So you just need to click, insert and scroll to the very bottom.

Right.

And then hit.

Table of Contents.

And here you can choose a different type of table of contents.

So there are many.

There is plain text dotted and links.

The links one is the best so far because to be to put it simply, it's actually the one that you will

need right now.

Select where you want to add the table of contents.

Now, usually you want to add the table of contents before the intro, so you want to add it right here.

So what you want to do, you want to add a space, click right here.

Go to insert Click table of contents and select the table of contents and it will be created to you

automatically.

So right now, what would happen is that whenever I click on any link, I'll be moved directly to that

particular part that talks about the link and the reason why the table of contents was possible in the

first place is because of the way we made sure that chapter number one is a heading number one.

Chapter number two is a heading number two and so on and so forth.

And whenever you edit something in here, what will happen is you will actually see it edited in the

table of contents.

Now here, I'm not so sure about it.

Okay.

So, yeah, All right.

So we can actually import this book as a manuscript doc and I don't mind importing it with the table

of contents because there is a way that you can delete the table of contents from the Kindle Create

app.

So all you need to do right now, make sure that you name your manuscript manuscript.

And I would like to put here Doc.

And click on file.

Then over here, click on download, click on Microsoft Word doc.

Now, you don't want to export your file as a PDF, but rather you want to import it as a doc because

that's, I believe, the only format that you can select and import to Kindle create.

So once you want to open up the app, click here on Create New.

Now if it doesn't work, click Create twice.

Now if you click twice, it will work.

Now there is a tutorial, but there is no need for you to just this.

This is more of a tutorial than the one that you're going to watch in there.

No offense to Amazon, but here I'm going to click on Choose File.

And if you go to downloads or if I go to downloads, I'll actually be able to find the file that I have

just downloaded right now.

Right.

So let me just go ahead and search for it.

I can click on it.

There you go.

Right.

So right now we have imported the book or the book is getting imported.

So you have to wait a couple of seconds.

It can actually also turn into a couple of minutes.

And so if it turns into a couple of minutes and you feel suspicious that it doesn't work, then no problem.

Just close the app and open it once more and do the process once again.

But I advise you to just be patient for five minutes at least before you cancel, right?

Because this app can quite can be quite slow, right?

I have experience with it and I can tell you, but I believe that this app is the best for formatting

Kindle books.

So I'm going to pause this video until the import process is done and I'll see you in a second.

So right now, the import process was successful.

Let me just click continue and here let's click Get Started.

Now once you do get started and click continue.

Now those are compulsory things.

If you bypass them, you won't perhaps get the suggested chapter titles.

If you do get them, please tell me that I am wrong.

Okay, but I'm quite sure that you won't get this if you bypass to click continue and the rest.

So make sure you click, continue and click get started.

Now once you do that, you'll be here.

Now this is a suggested chapter titles list.

So in here you can see that this is what the Kindle app has detected as chapters and as headings.

So there are some ones, some things that don't need to be there.

For example, passive income, Gen Z, this is the, the brand, This is the name of my brand that shouldn't

be there.

We should remove it.

So I'm going to click to remove it by checking this box right here and automatically it basically becomes

a normal text again.

Now this as well needs to be removed.

This as well needs to be removed and automatically they become in a good size.

So here, chapter number one, get your free copy.

Now, this shouldn't be there, so let's remove it.

And as far as the copyright page now, I don't want to integrate the copyright page in the curriculum

or the outline, so I'm just going to remove it as well.

And let's continue scrolling down, making sure that nothing is out of line.

Okay.

So let's just go down, go down, go down.

And I believe that everything is fine now.

Once everything is fine and you know it, click accept selected.

Now, once you do that, now you can start editing this stuff.

Now you can see here that this is the title automatically.

It's not the chapter title, it's actually the book title.

The entire book title.

Now this one is the book subtitle, This is your brand.

But the issue is that if I scroll down, the logo is too big.

Now you can actually make this logo small by clicking on medium.

And here the size has become medium and it is all in one page.

Now another thing you have to pay careful attention to is that you need to make sure that you add an

alt text as to what that image is about.

So here I'm going to say passive income Gen Z brand logo.

There you go.

So this is the alt text and the description for the image.

Now, also one SEO tip that I would like to recommend you to do.

Now.

This is the table of contents.

This table of contents was added using Google Doc, but I'll show you how you can add a table of contents

using the other using Kindle Create.

Okay, but if we scroll down right here, you can see that this is our eBook.

But one thing I'd like to say about images is that the reason why you should add them or you should

add the alt text to them is for people or to become ADA compliant.

So for people that suffer from disabilities, especially people who can't see there's such a thing as

ADA compliance.

And what this means is you have to make sure you cover it because now just go.

Please go and look for some videos of I've just watched a couple of months ago a video of an E commerce

guy.

He was doing really well.

And one day he received a lawsuit.

He was just he didn't expect it, but he received a lawsuit.

And what do you think that lawsuit was about?

It was actually from a person who is a disabled and he can't actually quite see the images in the E!

Commerce website.

So he wasn't able to navigate his way through the products.

And though he wanted to, he wanted to buy some products, but he couldn't see because the person didn't

add an alt text to describe what the image is on the website are about.

And the person that didn't do that, the E commerce website holder, ended up just getting lost in the

lawsuit and paying tons of money to get out of it.

And so just in case you want to you don't want to go there, if you want to protect yourself, make

sure that for every image that you put in your book, that you add an alt text to it.

For example, this image is AI brain.

So I'll just describe it as an AI brain.

Okay.

Right.

Or half eye brain, half human, right.

So because this part is half human is human.

And the other part is AI, you can do that if you want, but just do your best.

One other thing is that when you integrate keywords into the alt text, that also helps SEO.

For example, this image right here is AI.

So if you put AI or artificial intelligence.

Artificial intelligence Chip.

Now, here, artificial intelligence is a keyword that people are looking for on Google.

And so that will help you for SEO.

Believe me, it will really help you for SEO.

For example, here, if you add ChatGPT landing page.

That will help you for SEO because the keyword ChatGPT is mentioned now here as well you can say ChatGPT.

ChatGPT workspace.

And that will also help you for SEO because the keyword ChatGPT is in there.

Now here you can say the evolution.

Of I.

Right.

And for other images, for example, this one you can say water drop impact on.

Right.

Waterdrop impact.

I believe that's enough.

If you scroll down a sign.

That says right or wrong.

So this is how you describe your images, just in case you want to protect yourself from any any problems.

Now, over here, if we scroll up.

I'm going to take you through a walk.

So, for instance, the chapter, the size of this chapter is really huge, right?

So people are going to be able to read this on a on a tablet, but it's in their face.

It's huge.

How do you go about changing this and reducing the size?

Well, you select it, right, select this and click here on formatting and you can change the size

to, for instance, 20 to 22.

Now, once you do that, what will happen is that this is going to get applied or be applied to every

single heading, number one, because chapter one and chapter two and chapter three, all of those are

heading number ones.

And so what will happen at the end is that these are going to be.

All 22 pixels in terms of the size.

Now, I believe you can also make sure or select a different font, even though I highly recommend you

not to.

Please just keep the font as it is because this font is really good and it just will read better.

It will read better on these Kindle devices.

Now, also here you got this.

So this is heading number two.

Let's have a check the size.

So here, 18, I believe it's good.

So let's just leave it at that.

And if you keep scrolling down, you can see that there are some things that you can modify.

For example, you can pick this, right?

The text is 12 pixels, but if you want to make it bigger, you can make it bigger.

In my opinion, there is no need to make it bigger.

Bigger, right?

So as long as you formatted it properly in the Google doc, there is no need for you to do anything.

And remember that when you're formatting your book in Google Docs to make sure that for every paragraph

to add 1.5in terms of the the difference and you make sure that you add space before and after the paragraph

so that space before the paragraph and space after the paragraph to make sure that there is a room for

breath so that you don't overwhelm people with text that is in their face and all stacked, you know,

and doesn't make any sense.

So once you've done all of these edits, I believe that you can just preview.

Now, one thing I'd like to say here is how to insert the table of contents.

So for example, here, if you want to remove this table of contents that we added using Google Docs,

just select the table of contents, right?

So I'm just going to select parts of it.

Now, I hope I don't bug because when it bugs, it really bugs.

Now here I'm going to click Save.

And the reason why I want to do that, to be honest, is because I don't want to lose the changes because

one time I spent six hours editing a book and at the end I lost all the changes because the computer

froze and I couldn't get my changes.

I couldn't get what I worked six hours for.

So make sure that you from time to time click on the save button and to preserve your work.

Right.

So let's go down.

Now we're going to remove this bit by bit.

Okay.

So there's something obstructing the view.

Now let's remove this by simply removing it like you're removing a text from Doc.

So just select the part you want to remove and remove that.

There's also one important note I would like to say is that this space should not be here so normally.

This page should not be empty, so we need to make sure it's not.

So to do that, you have to select.

The page after it.

So this page from this.

And move it, move it, move it, move it.

Right.

So you can see that we've done a bad job here.

Okay.

So now it is better, right?

So it's moved to the first page except for this.

All right.

So let me click on Save.

Yes, save.

This one needs to turn back into a heading.

Right.

This one that needs to turn back into a heading again.

Now, when you try to select something on KDP, it gets a little bit tricky for the formatting.

Let's turn this into.

But even after we do that, I need to go to elements here and turn it into a subheading.

Right chapter, not chapter title.

Yep.

Formatting 22.

Okay, that's pretty cool.

Now just keep it in that position.

Don't don't center it or align it left.

Keep it centered.

For the subheadings or the subchapters.

You can keep them like this.

Okay, so right now what you need to make sure of is that there is no space between pages.

So everything needs to be perfect.

So for instance, over here there is a bit of space, but if you try to put this in that part or if

you try to put it to the top, it will just make it worse.

Just make sure that everything is not cramped up, you know?

So I think as as it is right now, it is pretty, pretty good.

Pretty good.

Now we're going to scroll to the very bottom of the book.

Right.

This part here.

I'm quite.

Doubting, right?

Yeah, but just keep it like that.

Keep it like that.

Okay.

And you can see that you don't need to change the other subtitles because once you've formatted them

in a certain way, what will happen is that you don't need to do it.

Except for I have.

I'm worried here because I don't think that this is a subtitle.

Right.

Let me click Subtitle.

Click chapter title.

Let me go.

Up, Up.

Okay.

So this.

Let me select it.

Formatting.

It's actually formatted like that.

Let me scroll up.

I'm just checking if everything is fine.

So.

So there are some that are not formatted properly.

For example, this one right here, it should actually not be like this.

It should be 18.

That's the correct size.

And it's not a it's not a chapter title, it's just a chapter subtitle.

But then again, if you add it as a chapter subtitle, what happens is that it just gets worse.

So you just need to go through them one by one and make sure that you put them as 18.

And when it comes to the formatting, drag them on to the left hand side, you know, so that you can

keep everything consistent.

Now, as far as the chapters, this should be a chapter title.

Let me just select it again.

Click chapter title, Right.

For some reason it's unclickable.

Maybe it's because of the image.

Let me add a space between it and the image.

Go to Elements Chapter title.

Yep, it's still the same issue.

Now, even though we've done a pretty good job on Google Doc, but there's still these little issues,

center it like this and these are just some of the things that you would be required to do.

So make sure that the chapters are 22 pixels and for the sub chapters they need to be 18 pixels.

For example, this one here needs to be 18 pixels, not not 22.

So and that's what, for the most part, what you're going to be doing now, once you do all of these

changes, which, of course you're going to have to go ahead and do them.

And by the way, I would like you to go and share your work with me.

So when you do these things, go ahead and share your work.

Now, in the meantime, I'm going to pause the video and go and fix the issues.

For instance, I'm going to fix every single chapter or subchapter.

I'm going to make sure that all of them have the exact same size.

Or what I think you should do is put this as a chapter subtitle, and I think that will fix it, even

though it will change the color.

But it's actually better, right?

And so you can select this.

Like this, and you can put it down here.

There you go.

Now, the introduction is good because otherwise there will just be chapter titles and go right here,

put it in the right hand side and do the same thing for all of the other ones.

So I'm going to pause the video and do the same thing for all the other ones.

Now here I'm getting near the end.

I'm just selecting all of these subtitles and making sure there are subtitles and aligned left and automatically

they're giving a size of 16, which I believe is even better than 18 pixels.

So I changed my mind here.

Formatting.

Let's check the left hand side, scroll down some more.

And now we have these three others.

Go to elements.

Click Subtitle.

Make sure that they're left.

The same thing goes for this chapter as well.

Chapter.

Go to the other one as well.

10.4 Charting our Path Forward.

Go here to Elements.

Okay, so this is pretty cool.

Now we are ready to go ahead and add the table of contents.

So now that we've removed the table of contents that we added by Google Docs, we can go over here.

And we can click here on plus on insert.

And click table of contents.

There you go.

So the contents is chapter one.

Chapter two.

Chapter three.

Chapter four.

Chapter five.

So what happened here is because we changed these into subtitles, there are no more or there are no

longer integrated inside as basically a subheadings.

And actually, let me click let me click out for a second.

Let me click again on this.

All right.

So now you can go back to chapter detection by clicking right here.

Edit Click on chapter detection and it can take everything back to normal as it was.

Now, of course, we're going to have to go ahead and do a bunch of edits, remove this.

And also we're going to have to remove this part.

Remove this part.

You're going to have to go.

Right.

So the emergence copyright page as well.

We're going to have to remove this part as well.

And for the rest.

Right.

And so you can see that.

These are their right.

I'm going to reject them.

Because I don't think there is any problem in creating a table of contents with just the chapters,

but for extra detail, just like I used here.

When you import the book, import it with the ready to go table of contents or when you import it without

a table of contents, make sure that you don't change this into a subheading, but that will carry the

risk of having the chapter and the sub chapter with the same size.

And people might not be able to make the difference between which is which.

So I'm just going to go, you know, with what I want to do here.

I'm going to click on insert, but you can do what you want.

You have multiple options.

I'm going to insert this table of contents right here with just the chapters.

And I believe it's not so bad, right?

So now we've got the table of contents and what happens when you add a table of contents using the Kindle

Create app is that the table of contents is placed at the beginning, before the before the name of

the book, before the the title of the book and the subtitle and the rest.

And so right now I'm going to click Save in order not to lose the changes and you can click on preview.

Now, once you click preview, you will be able to see how people are going to be able to view your

book.

Now we can go back.

This is the contents.

Click here.

This is the book, and you can see that this is how people are going to be able to view the book.

It's pretty cool, right?

It's easily readable.

And you can even choose the device type.

For example, if you want to read it on a phone.

This is how people are going to be able to read it on the phone.

And you can watch how it looks like.

In my opinion, it doesn't look so bad.

This is as good as it gets on a phone.

And also there is a Kindle reader or e-reader, which is the ideal one, except for I believe the colors

are not available.

Right.

But the Kindle reader is really good because it's the one that really gets you the most optimal version

of the the PDF format.

Now, once you are done, just click close, click over here on file and you can save project as.

And over here, the file type.

It's a KB.

There's also, I believe, another option here.

If we go, you can click file and click on Export and you can either export it as a PDF or an Epub.

If you want to export all you can, export all, which means that you're going to export both the formats

Cpbf and Epub.

I'm going to go ahead and export all.

There's no problem with that except for.

It's better to go ahead and create a file for it.

So go and create a file in your downloads and name that file after the title of your book.

So for instance, here.

I'm going to copy this.

Head back over here.

Then just create a new document or dossier.

Paste this in, and remove the doc in the manuscript part.

And you can say book.

Elements.

Right.

And there you go.

Now, what you can do, you can go back to Kindle, create, click on file, click on export export

all.

Go to the place where you want to put your downloads.

Now it's in my downloads and then here.

I'm going to go and look for the ChatGPT revolution which change the world.

Book elements.

This is where and you can name this now I'm going to say Kindle.

Version of the book.

There you go.

It's going to take a little bit of time for exporting.

And it's going to be downloaded as a PDF and an epub, which you can't read them on your computer,

right?

But they can be read on Kindle.

Right.

So now we've taken care of this part, right?

Now there is no need to show the file just close.

I know where the file is.

It's exactly what I put it.

Right.
