when you think about singing to the Lord

here you're like a it's a strange thing

that the Bible commands us to sing like

it's not if you feel like it you should

sing

I command you to sing and we know that

all the commands of God in the scripture

about wooing us into greater

relationship with him and greater joy in

knowing him so what's going on in

singing I think the first thing that

gets confusing to us as Christians is

because we kind of compartmentalize what

it means to exist and so there's this

spiritual thing and then there's this

unspiritual thing and and they kind of

stay in each other each other's kind of

lanes and they don't go mingle but God

has made us embodied people our souls

are embodied and so the reason it got

sus to sing and to raise your hands and

to clap and to use your body in the

worship of the name of Jesus is because

something's happening to us in our

spirit and soul and body and mind when

all of those things are working together

in fact science is already backing up

how the Bible is unpacking this to us

like we just know now that it's singing

out loud raises our endorphin level and

and lowers those hormones that create

stress and so when God says hey sing to

me it's this invitation

raise your hands this invitation clap

shout is this invitation to have stress

lowered to bring about a sense of peace

and joy into the heart and so the

command of God to sing as uncomfortable

as it can be because we don't sing well

we've got this fear of the first couple

of weeks of American Idol going on we

don't want to be distracting to those

around us and yet the command to sing is

there for your joy for the glory of God

for the nestling of your soul into the

peace of Christ
