when you realised

I was five.

I used to always go to the pub,

and they used to have
a karaoke machine,

and then I just got up and
just started singing random songs

just to get a bit of a laugh.

And then the barman said,
"You should come down and do a gig."

Within, like, a year and a half,
my life just sort of just changed.

What about you, Will?
I was nine years old.

My brother started a group
called Cloud Nine.

He rapped and I beat boxed.

I got a record deal at 17.
They called me, I didn't call it.

Oh, I always wanted to sing.
Ever since I can remember.

A lot of people sing in Wales.
Really?

We're encouraged to sing.

Family gatherings and stuff,

I'm Yoni. I'm 16. I'm a student.
And I live in North West London.

I definitely come from
a musical family.

We all can play an instrument.

Whether it's the voice
or keys or violin.

Yoni's like a typical teenager.

He loves music. He's obsessed with
listening to records, singing.

At the moment, I'm trying to focus
on school because of my GCSEs.

Which one, this one?
Yeah.

My mum started a charity,

and one thing I really like to do
is help out.

He's just really kind-hearted
and a beautiful kid.

I might be one of
the youngest people performing,

but I think what's so special
about The Voice

is that it's purely judged on
how that person is singing,

not only technically,
but how they're making you feel.

I think, when I see Yoni
walking out on that stage,

I'm gonna feel so nervous,
but so incredibly proud.

I think there'll be so much
going through my head

when I'm walking out there.

I'll just have to, you know, block
it all out and focus on the song.

And this is the biggest performance
of my life.

I'm pushing 79.

And I'm a musician from Dundee
in Scotland.

Growing up, we didn't have a lot.
My mum died very young.

My dad was a lovely man.

He played the accordion.

And he used to play Polish songs
to make us sleep.

And that got my interest in music.

I would say, in 1956,
I would be 12 years old,

and that was when rock and roll
hit Britain for the first time.

We couldn't afford a guitar,
but we had an old piano.

And all the kids at school wanted to
be Elvis, Ben E King, Chuck Berry.

Er...

I kind of lost the track there!

There's no piano safe. As soon as
I see a piano, I'm that kid again.

He always says to me,

"I will never stop playing music
until I drop dead.”

Oh, here's a good one.
Here I am with Jimmy Page.

I used to play with
all the '60s bands,

The Swinging Blue Jeans,
The Tremeloes, The Troggs.

Oh, God...

God, who have I not played with?

There's one here
onstage with Chuck Berry.

I'll never forget that show.

I've played on
lots of different kinds of stages,

from small clubs
right up to stadiums.

But this is something new for me.

I've never played
to the back of four chairs.

since I was eight or nine years old.

I just grew up
seeing my dad writing lyrics,

I'm a singer-songwriter
from Hertfordshire.

I gig all the time
in clubs and hotels and weddings.

As much as I love that side
of performing and singing,

my real passion is songwriting
and gigging with my songs.

And that's when I feel
really in my element as a performer.

My brother and I
have always been quite close.

She's my best friend.

She was my best woman at my wedding.

And, you know, we've kind of been
tight, really, since we were kids.

It feels like your time.

You've put in the graft, you've done
the gigs where you've been ignored.

He's the only person that knows
exactly what I've been through,

and vice versa.

I manage a rare condition
called MEN,

which stands for multiple endocrine
neoplasia disorder type 1.

Which means I can grow tumours kind
of randomly in my endocrine system.

And I manage a couple of tumours.

I am monitored and scanned to check
that they don't become an issue.

Or more of an issue.

# When I don't know what to say... #

I always remember thinking like,
"I just don't want you to have it.

“I'll happily take that on
if it means you don't have it."

And just feeling, yeah, very gutted
when I found out that she'd got it.

The condition that I have,
my brother also has.

And we inherited that from our dad.

My dad passed away when I was six.

So, it's made me really grateful for
my life and making sure I use it.

Her having the release of music,

it's always been her safe space,
I suppose.

Like, she returns to it
and it propels her forward.

So, how are you feeling?
I feel quite nervous.

I've kind of
psyched myself up for it,

and I think I've realised
how much I actually really want it.

Hope's been through a lot,

and she's managed to turn
all of that into this love of music

and the kind of one-mindedness of,
"This is my dream."

I am quite nervous
to be in front of everyone.

Do you perform a lot?
Yeah. Not like this, though.

Is this big, yeah?

I love singing.

And hopefully the coaches
will be able to hear that.
