when I was younger

"when my forever is a lot shorter
than theirs?"

I was diagnosed
with cystic fibrosis,

I think, when I was three weeks old.

It's essentially that the cells
in the lungs don't work properly

and usually, over time,
you end up losing lung function.

I found out the life expectancy
when I was in high school.

I remember doing the worst thing
and googling it

and at that point it was 32.

Like, a big thing
for a 14-year-old to see.

A year ago,
I could see my health declining

and I actually tried really hard
to not think about the future

because I didn't think
that I'd really have much of one.

But six months ago or so,

this new drug, the Trikafta,
it got approved in Australia.

Statistically, it's been predicted

to add another 40 years
to the life expectancy.

When I was told, it was,
like, the best day of my life.

And, like, the first thing that came
out of my mouth was, "Oh, my god,

"like, I'm gonna be able
to get married

"and, oh, my god,
I'm gonna be able to have kids."

scarred from all of the damage

and you end up losing lung function.

When I was in Grade Ten

and they found
this really rare infection...

and because my body
was under so much stress,

all my hair started falling out.

Like, you're panicking because
your hair is literally in your hand.

What is going on?
What is happening to me?

Mum took me straight to a wig shop

but when you're 15, it felt like
the end of the world at the time.

It was really hard

so quickly.
