different at times.

To be honest, it's gonna be nice

and while I got my injury

to get through

the water any more.

- I was building a pier here.

I was clearing
all the hyacinth off

and do you see that big log,

to the end of the tree

And it snapped.

So I had to get it stitched up

they brought the tools,

I've been needing to
take on these gators.

to be out on a challenge

with EJ

and now I get the opportunity.

Now, as team mortuous pack.

[Narrator] Half way
through the challenge,

Steven and Jeff's food options

are becoming scarce.

Still haven't seen
any alligators

in like four days.

[Narrator] And signs
of a dangerous predator

pose new threats.

[Steven] One of the biggest
black bear tracks I've seen.

[Jeff] That's a big bear.

We've got visitors.

Day 30, my friend.

[Steven] Mmm-hmm.

Yeah, it's a holiday.

- Yeah.
- [Jeff] Half way, baby.

Today is a very special day

I'm grateful for all
that has happened,

I'm grateful for all that
Steven and I have overcome

and for all that
we have achieved.

Although, I know

from my previous
60-day challenge

in the Philippines, that,

it only gets more
difficult from here.

[Man] And we need a medic.

I feel myself starting
to walk slower

and my peripheral
vision is starting to blur.

I'm gonna make it. [Sniffles]

I'm gonna freaking make it.

The difficulty is an
exponential scale

from day one all
the way to the end

it gets exponentially
more harder.

Because your body becomes weaker

and famished

and dehydrated

and each day
becomes more difficult

and that's something that
we're gonna have to overcome.

We're also going
into the worst season.

It's going to be colder

and the weather is
going to get worse

as this challenge goes on.

But we will be there at the end.

Man, some slow fish
in the last few days.

Yeah, man.

Can't even hear 'em jumpin'
out there like we used to.

I mean, we haven't
seen a gator in forever.

- And I've been up and down...
- Yeah.

We've been crossing the river

and checking over on that side.

I've not seen any gator movement

but these weather patterns
and these temperature changes.

I guarantee every
one of these alligators

is sitting at the
bottom of the river,

uh, waiting for the
sun to come out,

so they can warm
themselves back up.

Nothin' there.

Not a thing, just weeds.

[Jeff] Yeah.

And it's a little nerve-wracking

because not been able
to see those food sources

that we've been
seeing every single day

and have them suddenly
disappear like that,

it kind of puts a
chill up your spine.

And that bear track
we saw the other day

could mean that bears are also
having problems finding enough food.

I'm gonna go check my snares,

try to get some
food on the table.

Nothin'. Not a thing.

[Bees buzzing]

Those are bees.

I think I just found
a beehive up here.

Right in that nook

of that tree,

there's a lot of 'em.

Well...

Usually where there's
bees, there's honey.

And sugar is worth
more than gold out here.

[Bees buzzing]

If there's honey up there...

That explains why we saw
the biggest black bear print

I have seen in a long time.

[Bees buzzing]

Problem is, it is
about 40 feet in the air.

I have no idea how
deep into that tree

the honeycomb is.

Or the hive.

It could be way deep in there.

I have no idea.

Another problem is if
I shimmy up that tree,

I might really tick him off

and then I'm 40
feet up in the air,

surrounded by stinging bees.

Which is also not good.

The fact that there's
this many bees

tells me that there's
probably honey in there.

Ah, it's just how to get it?

[Narrator] Fifteen
miles north-west,

team savages' second
gator of the challenge...

[Ryan] This is at least
two weeks' worth of food

off of this one alligator.

[Narrator] ...Had them
surging once again.

[Matt] This is where I thrive

and you know what, it makes
you proud to come home.

[Narrator] Until Rylie's
health took a shocking turn.

[Ryan] Oh, she just got sick.

[Ryan] You all right, Rylie?

[Rylie] I feel pretty unwell,

but I don't feel nauseous,

I don't have the sharp
pains but I think it's because...

I haven't eaten
or drank anything.

I just kind of...

Feel...

I just kinda know if I was to
drink or eat much right now,

I'd probably throw up again.

[Ryan] You're gonna have
to attempt that at some point.

Yeah.

- You can't just not drink.
- [Rylie] Right.

I'm still a little queasy,

but I do feel better in that
I'm not throwing up profusely.

So, any progress
is good progress

because being sick out
here really isn't an option.

Because I definitely
wanna make it to day 60.

It's like your guts
are angry with you.

[Rylie] I know.

I'm just...

Giving myself a
break from throwing up

because it's, like, physically
painful and draining.

I'll probably try to...

- [Matt] Yeah, you need to...
- Slow down a little.

- Rest as much as you can.
- Yeah, you need to rest.

[Ryan] Dehydration out
here on these challenges

is one of the worst
things that can happen.

[Vomiting]

Throwin' up everywhere.

After being medically pulled
out of my previous XL challenge...

No, I don't wanna leave.

[Groans]

I know the condition
that she's in.

If she cannot
replace those fluids,

uh, dehydration can
easily take someone out.

So Rylie's gonna take the day,

uh, to rest herself
in the shelter.

And get her back to a 100%

'cause team savage isn't
team savage without Rylie.

Ryan, you feel like helping
me with a quick dock project?

Sure thing.

[Ryan] We gotta figure out a
way to get out over this water.

[Matt] Yeah.

The water out here
is solid shoreline

and then it drops off into
straight muck after the roots.

So when we go
to try to catch fish,

it makes us almost have to
dive into the water to get it.

And as we've learnt, this
water is no place to dive into.

With this whole, you know,
nutria parasite we've got going on.

[Ryan] This will be nice.
Nice, little launching spot.

So the first X is
probably gonna go

right in front of where
we put these logs.

If you bring me back
to the Amazon jungle,

I made a platform

200 yards into the Amazon.

Perfect.

So I can stand up and
throw the cast net and fish.

So you know what?

I was like, "yeah, I
can make a dock."

Just gonna make two sticks
here, bring them together,

two sticks here,
bring them together

and then we're just gonna
lay the dock on top of it.

We can do that without
getting in the water.

I think we can do
it without getting...

too far in the water.

I got these two. [Grunts]

All right, so I'm gonna
put it about here.

[Grunts]

[Ryan] Look how
far down that goes.

That ain't going nowhere.

- That's four feet in the mud.
- [Matt laughs]

That's why I did not
expect it to go that deep.

[Matt] You take one
step and that's waist deep.

[Grunts]

Then I'm gonna
bend 'em together.

[Ryan] This
shouldn't be too bad.

[Matt] We're making
two flexible Y’s

that I'm sticking
straight in the mud

as far as I can get 'em.

I flex 'em together

and when that happens, it
actually creates an upside down V.

That upside down V now
is pushing inside the mud

at an angle that doesn't
allow it to sink any further.

- We got this.
- [Ryan] Perfect.

[Matt] And because of
that, it'll support the dock.

[Ryan] Nice.

[Matt] We'd lay
some poles in there

and now, we have
got waterfront property

with a beautiful dock.

There it is.

By constructing this dock

and getting us eight
feet off the shoreline,

now we're able to
walk out to the end of it,

and get out a little bit
further into the water

because the mud
is just everywhere.

And me and mat need
to stay out of the mud,

um, due to the new tree itch.

Wow, it's legit.
It's a legit dock.

Savage dock build...

Here we are.

[EJ yells] Good morning, swamp!

Wake up, we're
about to kick your ass!

Look at all this.

[Gary] Dig in and pig out, EJ.

[EJ] I love honey.

- Dip it.
- Oh, that's amazing.

[Gary] That pollen in there,

did you know pollen's
one of the few things

in nature that brings
your testosterone up?

- [Chuckles]

No, I've got plenty of it.

A [bleep] tree couldn't
even rip 'em off.

Max and Gary, they're amazing.

I'm so appreciative to have
extra hands on deck now.

Man, this just
makes me understand

how hard trying to
get to 60 days alone

would have really, really been.

After we get all that firewood,

we're gonna head south.

And we give the boys a
little orientation of the land,

'cause they brought the tools.

J hooks and treble
hooks and paracord.

And I can't wait to
taste that first gator.

All right, so this is
"little alligator pond".

[Gary] Okay.

And there is a few
little four-footers here.

- Hear them?
- Oh.

He suns on that beach
right there, just jumped in.

- [Gary] Just heard him jump in.
- [EJ] Yeah.

[Gary] Huh.

- [EJ] So that's good.
- That is good.

That gator's out sunning,

that's the first
one in a few days.

- [Max] Another one.

- [Max] That's bigger than the one we caught.
- [Gary] Yeah, it is.

[Max] We never saw anything

- out of the water that big.
- [EJ] Yeah.

Um, okay, you can start
to see "big gator pond".

[Gary] Oh, yeah.

- [EJ] It's a pretty big one.
- [Max] Yeah.

[Gary] Wow.

[Max whispering]
Oh, I see a big gator

right across the way.

- Look at the size of that mother...
- [EJ] Shh.

[Gary] Looks like
a 12 right there.

[EJ] Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

That's a ten-footer.

[Gary] It's bigger than ten.

[EJ makes animal sound]

A 12-foot gator, that's like...

That's, like, man-eating
size, definitely.

And, uh...

It's also good for...

"Man-to-eat" size.

You're drooling. Wait.

Yeah, hold on.

- You're drooling.
- Right there.

We're gonna get him,
we're gonna get him.

- We're gonna get him, Gary.
- Yeah.

[Gary] I almost
wanna set a gator line

on that, right on that corner.

[EJ] Yeah, we could.

[Gary] Pulling that
gator up would be tough.

- That can break the paracord.
- [EJ] Yeah.

'Cause he's gonna weigh...

A 12-footer's gonna
weigh about 700 pounds.

- [Max] Really?
- [EJ] Yeah.

There was a few
of those that size...

I just didn't have
the tools to get them.

- But now I do.
- [Max] But now we do.

With you two.

Oh, nothing.

[Steven] So, I gotta
figure out a way

to see if the honey is
close enough to that opening

to even attempt to
try to get this honey.

So, my plan is cutting down

a really long tree...

Shoving it in there...

And if there's honey on the end,

we got a significant
source of sugar

which is thousands and
thousands of calories.

That's a big-ass tree.

So, I'm gonna try that, I think.

Shove it in there,
see what happens.

[Bees buzzing]

That pissed them off.

Oh, [bleep]! Beehive swarm!

the stinger's not still...

Oh, the stinger
is still in there.

- [Panting] Cut down a tree...

And I literally blinked, man,

and it was... [Imitating
bees buzzing]

- [Jeff chuckling]
- I'm like, [Bleep] This!

- I got the hell outta there, man.

That was scary.
That was scary, man.

And out of all the
thousands of bees,

I only got stung once.

I mean, gift from God

or maybe my miraculous
sprinting speed.

I don't know what it was,

but, uh, it could have
been a really big problem.

It could have been bad,

like hospital bad.

Is the tree possible
to climb to the nest?

It's possible to climb,

I'm not sure if I can climb it.

I mean, it's steep,
man, it's like this.

I mean, it's like this.

I mean, if there's anything
on the edge of that stick...

- Yeah.
- That's definitely something

I think we should think about.

It was, uh... That was intense.

- [Gary] You wanna roll on some lines?

[Max] I'm thankful to
be at this new location,

it's just a breath of fresh air.

Seriously, such a
breath of fresh air.

I can't even imagine staying
another day at our old location.

- [EJ] I got a big catfish on there.
- [Max] Yeah, I see that.

So, why didn't you eat this guy?

- [EJ] He was, uh, dead.
- [Max] Oh, really?

[EJ] 'Cause a
gator had killed him

and he was just all slimed
over and just maggoty.

Just nasty.

We get to carry around
this nasty, stinking bait

that's been fermenting
for a couple days.

And you know
why that's so great?

We might not like the smell,

but the gators love it,

and it's like a
dinner bell for them.

[Max] Well, I'm thinking
that's a prime spot

- to have something hanging out.
- [EJ] Yeah.

[Max] Let's see
what I can do here.

I've been trying to get
something over there.

And when the boys came in here,

they had gator
hooks with paracord.

I didn't have that asset,

they showed up with it,

and it really, uh, helps.

You don't know how
long I've been waiting,

almost a month for that.

I've been trying
to replicate it,

but you can't do it

- without the right hooks.
- Yeah.

[EJ] Nice job.

[Max] So, this morning,

we saw a massive
alligator across the way,

we've named him Zeus.

This guy's at least 12 feet.

The girth on this guy?

He's, like, three of my bodies,

that's where his
torso looks like.

It is frickin' amazing.

Just knowing that that
monstrosity's in there,

just gives me the passion,

it gives me the drive
to wanna catch him.

[EJ] I'm glad we
could combine forces.

You know, we're like the
missing keys to each other's link

- in order to keep succeeding.
- [Gary] Hell yeah.

[Max] We're going out,

moving like a
well-greased machine.

We set up all of
our gator hooks,

we literally put in
ten fishing hooks

within, like, 30, 40
minutes, which is huge.

What you do is, that
you build a tension on it...

So it's bent a little bit.

[Max] Why? So, it, like,
hooks into the mouth?

It just helps give them play

- in the water.
- [Gary] Yeah.

And it works... It's a real...

It's a neat little trick.

I'm stoked to soak
up all of the knowledge

that EJ has when
it comes to survival.

It's frickin' epic.
I'm so stoked.

Gary and I are frickin'
blessed to have EJ here.

survival situation, really,

you gotta gauge risk
and reward, you know?

Me and Jeff, we've
done this a lot.

You learn what's worth doing

and what's not worth doing.

For us to try to climb up
the tree is super dangerous.

You know, it's
interesting that...

All the bear sign...

We're seeing directly

- under the beehive.
- Under the honey tree.

Mmm-hmm.

shove a stick in there."

- I'm better. I mean, not throwing up.

I'm feeling much better
as far as my nausea.

Uh, I... I'm not sure
what was going on,

or kinda still is going on

with my digestive system,

but I am finally
feeling a little better.

And I'm feeling much,
much more energy.

So, I haven't been
across our channel,

and I think it's a perfect
time to go over there

and see what's
really over there.

I'm gonna head across the water.

To that open forest area?

Yeah. So, I wanna go look for,

- you know, really anything.
- Yeah. Yeah.

[Rylie] We are half way,

but we still got a
lot of time out here.

And this place really
can be very barren

when it comes to resources.

So, we need to make sure that

we can sustain ourselves

until we cross that finish line.

[Matt] What I have to say is that there
aren't a lot of survivalists right now...

With a dock.

Make a dock or bust, people.

So, now that I've
finished this dock,

it's actually a huge
benefit for going out fishing.

You now can step
out past the ledge

eight feet into the water,

to where you can actually
see fish in the water better.

So, I'm gonna make a spear,

so that I get out
and spear fish.

Concept behind
it is, these prongs

are gonna be situated like so.

Once I notch them into place,

they're gonna
provide a spear set up

when the fish goes in.

It's a paralyzer
tip, it's called.

As these spread
apart, it holds on to it.

So, it doesn't actually have
to have a barb necessarily.

[Rylie] You know, I love
foraging and looking around.

I'm really gonna
try to make sure

every leaf is over turned here,

and we're not just
sitting on a resource

that we're not aware of.

It's time to walk
in through here.

Oh, there is a
gator in the hydrilla.

First alligator we've
seen in a minute

and he looks like
he's being very active.

He's not just sun
bathing, he's moving,

looks like he's looking
he's for something to eat.

I wish he was just
laying on the bank

because I would machete him...

In the head.

[Ryan] Nice...

A fish would be great
this evening, huh?

[Matt] Oh, that would be nice.

I just saw a bowfin

eat a chunk of meat right here

in front of me, or a
catfish or something.

Might have been a catfish.

If I could see him better,

I was kinda guessing...

[Ryan] But I'll tell you what,

this dock is...

Is fantastic for this.

[Matt] There's a mullet.

before that even got there.

That's a long spear throw.

Man.

That was too deep.
They're too small.

For this to work, we
got to figure out a way

to get farther out
over the water.

Mushrooms.

This is what you want.

This is what you like to see.

The idea for all these mushrooms

that I'm gonna harvest

is to hang them and dry them,

and then they can
be rehydrated anytime.

We can throw them in anything.

If we get another gator,

if we, you know, wanna
make a stew or anything.

These can be dried
like little soup crackers

and then rehydrated.

This is another way to make,

like, a lasting food store.

There's a lots of deer tracks.

This is a lot of deer.

That's a big-ass deer...

That was recently here.

This is huge print.

And definitely
fresh deer tracks.

Fresh ones.

Got to be a crawfish
in one of these holes.

- Hey.

Ooh.

[Rylie] Yeah, not nearly as
much as I hoped for, but...

That's a decent amount.

Any tracking or anything?

- Tons.
- Tons?

Tons of deer.

Just deers on deers on deers.

- A lot of tracks.

- Big ones.

- Gives a game plan there.

[Matt] Rylie comes
back and tells me

there's a lot of
deer track crossings,

and that's huge
because if these deer

have moved into this
area during the cold,

that means this savage here

is about to move
in on them deer.

But I still have
this parasitic worm

nutria itch thing going on.

And because of that,

I still can't get in the water.

So, I'm trying to figure out

how to try to
address this problem.

You know what?

Let's build a bridge.

[Both laugh]

got a start on it.

[Ryan] That is about
a 50 to 60 foot bridge.

It's just never been done.

Is it even possible?

We can't get in the water.

beast out there...

visiting our shelter

in the middle of the night.

That's a little scary.

- [Steven] They are.

Animals on this
little island are...

- They're going dormant for the season.

but a black bear running at
me in the middle of the night

when I'm naked,
practically unarmed,

gonna be a long day.

Out here in the swamp,

there's no way that you
can traverse this area by foot.

You just can't.

You walk 20 yards
in each direction,

and you end up knee-deep in mud.

And so, we're gonna
have to build a raft,

and we have to navigate
the waterways here.

These little rivers and streams.

The problem is, we happen
to be in an environment

- where there's no good buoyant trees.
- [Steven] Yeah.

What we have going for
us is all these cut trees

- we've already used for our shelter.
- [Steven] Yeah.

And they've already dried out

around the fire
and everything else.

And so if we can use
those to construct a raft,

we're one step ahead.

Yeah.

[Jeff] Uh, Steven
and I, we have a plan.

We're gonna take
apart our shelter

and all the poles that
we have already cut down

in this forest to
create this shelter,

and we're gonna convert
those poles into a raft.

And this is gonna help us

to get to a new location
and do it relatively safely.

I say we start shoving.
Let's see what happens.

us every night.

But, um, this is something
that has to be done.

For us to cut down more
trees, clean 'em, debranch 'em,

and put 'em together
to make a raft,

we're burning a ton
of excess calories,

we're wasting materials

we already used
calories to chop down,

and, um, it's just
not a smart move.

But, um, the raft
is a full-day project.

Once that's done, try
to get some good rest,

and then we got a
big voyage tomorrow.

That's a lot of wood.

[Steven chuckling] Yeah.

you wanna take this

other side has game,

I hunted it, and when I
got back from hunting,

I actually ended up
getting that nutria yet again.

So I know I can't
get in the water,

but I know it's possible
that on the other side,

there's greener pastures

and more ground
for us to explore.

So what we have to do

is we have to extend
our dock long enough

that we can get out
over the open water

to the other side
of this channel.

Hoping that all works.

getting these things out
there any sort of distance.

[Matt] You know, the best bet was probably
gonna be to just stand this sucker up,

just like if we were to try

to set a telephone
pole out there.

The same concept with the dock,

is where I'm driving each
stick straight in the ground,

bending up together.

By doing this, it's
creating a support,

but it's also distributing
that weight evenly

over that mud surface
so they don't sink.

Doing those at each
one of those post blocks,

it's actually creating
a primitive but yet

architecturally-designed
bridge that will

hold all three of
us, no problem.

This actually works really well.

need about six supports

8 to 10 feet apart,

and then we will cover
those with 40 long poles

to make one continuous
path to the other side.

Tell me when you've got
it for the weight transfer.

because we basically built a
bridge off of a balance beam.

and now, literally, a whole
new world has opened up.

The easiest way to
traverse the swamp

is through the waterways.

have to build a raft.

over a hundred
sapling posts and poles.

We're gonna strap
those together,

make two buoys,
like on a pontoon boat.

a flat surface on top.

Hopefully, that'll be able
to keep our hides dry,

everything we don't want
submerged, above water.
