Over 2,000 kilometres away,

the second checkpoint, Bonifacio,

on the island of Corsica.

Teetering perilously
on an eroding limestone cliff,

this ninth-century city was built
by Count Bonifacio of Tuscany

as a defence against pirates,

before being conquered by
the French 250 years ago.

Well, France is kind of home.

Yes. We've got language on our side.

To reach the checkpoint, the teams
need to travel across Spain

to France's southern coast,

where ferries depart

for the Mediterranean island
of Corsica.

They may be drawn to city-hop

through Spain's central
and well-connected major cities -

or they could be tempted
by the rural north,

with the rich culture of Galicia
and the Basque country

on the way to the French border.

So what's best for us to do?

Central or northern?

We wanted to go to the north
of Spain.

We've kind of done big cities,

so it'd be nice to do something
a bit more rural,

somewhere off the beaten track
that we haven't done before.

So we just need to get to...
San Sebastian.

Opting for the most direct route
to France,

mother and daughter are aiming

to catch the early morning bus

to Vila Real to get a connection
to Donostia-San Sebastian.

The doctors sort of huddle

whilst they were sort of giving me
the medical attention

that I needed at the time.

I was just in that mindset where
I was like, "I need to be strong.

but I didn't show it.
