So how did your family start
designing ice hotels?

Well, um, when I was a kid,

I asked my dad for an igloo,

and he recruited our family
friend, Joe Shawinigan,

who is also a resident artist
here, actually.

He's the one that showed my dad
how to pack the snow

so tight that it would actually
trap our body heat.

My dad and I spent the night
in the igloo,

and the idea for the Ice Hotel
was born.

That's a nice story.

A lot of dreams are born from
great stories.

What inspired you to enter into
the wild world

of hospitality and hotel
management?

- (Hannah laughing)
- It's a family tradition.

Every year, my family goes on
a tropical vacation.

- Really?
- Yeah, I loved it.

Collecting seashells,
hearing the waves on the shore.

And ever since then,
I wanted to manage my own hotel.

Somewhere warm.
You know, nothing fancy,

just a couple huts on the ocean.

- That's a good story.
- Mm, yeah.

Wish it had a happy ending,
though, but...

What happened?

Um, I was managing a hotel
for a little bit,

but as it turns out,
it kind of flooded on my watch.

So that's when I joined
the agency,

and I've been there ever since.

Here I am, fixing another
mistake.

You know, the first Ice Hotel
that my dad and I tried to build

started melting before we were
even finished.

- Really?
- Yeah.

It was a total disaster.

But we just kept the dream alive

and kept trying until
we did it.

I'm really trying,

I honestly have no idea what
I did before I hired her,

because she does so much for me,

It's just a tap that allows the
sap to run into the bucket.

You see, this one's
almost full.

So, it really is just as

our maple taffy

snow, it'll begin to harden.

Next, you're going to take your
popsicle stick

twirl it into the taffy

and you'll be making sort of
like a little lollypop with it.

You want to do it while it's
still soft,

but not too soft,

or you'll have a gooey mess
on your hands.

pursuing your dream

in New York,

the kind of job you get right
out of college,

so I was really excited.

And then, one night,
I was working late

and the kitchen staff told me
about a leak

that I thought could wait until
the next morning.

Clearly I was wrong, so, yeah
an inch of water later,

I was fired, and that's when I
started working at the agency.

kind of hard to mess up an eight
by eight cubicle, right? Heh.

I can imagine why that would
make you question yourself,

but take it from somebody who
has been through

a lot of ups and downs
in this business,

you have more than what it takes
to run a place like this.

And I think it would
be a shame

on your dreams,
