All language subtitles for 11. How I Story tell my Vlogs

Hi.

Welcome back.

It is Brad here again with another Adobe Premiere ICC tutorial and I hope you having an awesome day.

I want to talk about storytelling.

Your blogs using Adobe Premier pro so not going to talk about storytelling theoretically.

I'm just going to show you how I storytelling my blogs using this amazing piece of software to have

to do it my way My way is not the perfect way just the way that I like and I've been using it now for

twelve to 18 months and it seems to be working most of the time when I put out videos right.

And so I must admit though this is a definitely a work in progress and no one can tell a perfect story

all the time you know not all stories resonate all the time with your intended audience.

So it just takes practice.

And so I'll show you what I've been doing and what seems to be working for me.

And then you can use this or not.

So the first thing is though talking very briefly about the storytelling of a vlog and that I've got

a lock up on your screen right now.

And so what I usually do with my blogs is I usually dialogue for a little bit.

I talk for a little bit and then after about 15 seconds or so sometimes 30 seconds I then cut straight

into a montage and then the montage plays for about 20 to 30 to 40 seconds.

And it's a little bit cinematic.

I like to have my crop bars in every now and again.

So you'll see these black bars top and bottom.

And so I explained how to do that in another video where I explain how to create cinematic top and bottom

bars.

And I also like to do a bit of color grading as well for this little montage just makes it a little

bit more captivating in the first minute of the vlog.

And then I go straight back into my audio so my dialogue over here despite for my laptop to catch up

with me it's a little bit slow.

And then when that happens I'm really just introducing the vlog and I start the vlog pretty much from

around the 45 second to a minute mark.

Talk talk talk talk talk.

So this is essentially one vlog that I have created here work dialogues montage and then I start talking

in another vlog over here where I've done a tiger Moy type vlog on things to do.

I teased the story a little bit.

I'll play it back.

I already welcome back it is here again with Robin Weil.

And in this video we can be talking about some of the activities that you can do if you're training

a tiger mai tai or anywhere along fitness street in this video.

So in that in that example they I've got where I'm I'm essentially offering the value proposition of

the vlog in the first 15 seconds to 30 seconds.

And that's really important.

You have to either tease the story of the vlog because when you have logging.

It's all about storytelling.

It's all about telling your story whatever that story is that you're wanting to share with the world

when you're creating of log.

It's about telling the story.

And if your story is 15 minutes long then you want to try and get to the.

You want to get a punch line of your story out in the first five seconds.

The moment someone clicks on your video right.

You want to get to that.

You want to have the punch line of your story in their face in the first five 10 15 seconds.

Right.

And then you can go into like some kind of montage or a bumper real or some something like this if you

want and then you can get you can start with the beginning of your story over here after the montage

plays.

So in this case I've got more or less.

This is more a utility kind of video where I'm offering value in terms of like things to do in a particular

training around a particular training camp in Thailand.

So my value proposition here is the first 15 seconds where I'm introducing the video and saying hey

I'm going to be sharing with you x y z.

Stick around.

It's coming up very soon right.

And then I get into a little bit of a montage and this montage is directly related to the training around

this particular camp.

And then I get into the tips moving forward.

And so that's what I usually do if I go back if I go to my YouTube channel actually I've got this open

already.

If I'm shooting a pure vlog which is a complete story of my day and I I've done like probably eight

nine hundred of these videos over the past three years what I usually do I tease my story by playing

it in the very beginning so I'll play this back and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Actually before I do.

So this is one of my London blogs and this is actually in the last probably three or four months.

It's probably the most popular video I've put out in the last three or four months.

Right.

And so this is a story vlog of my first visit to the city of London and it's a walking tour that my

girlfriend gave me of London and I've never been there before and this is my first video and I filmed

the whole thing and it's 70 minutes long and where people say well you videos can't be too long while

this is 70 minutes is actually longer than most of my other videos yet it's the most one of the most

popular ones on my channel.

But I'll play the first 15 seconds for you and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about with my explanation

here.

Literally people everywhere

in Victoria we're just trying to get a coffee.

Okay so I'll stop it there.

Now essentially in the first five seconds you're hearing my absolute shock to my reaction to all of

the people all of the chaos in London because literally are Robin and I we walked out of the train station

and it was just completely overwhelming.

So when I was editing this 17 minute vlog I found that that piece was the most representative of how

I felt on the day and I wanted that five second reaction to be at the very very beginning of my vlog.

And so this is it.

Duty people everywhere.

So it's only five seconds and then I go into a bit of a montage bit of a train journey and then it starts

at London's Victoria train station.

That's the beginning of my story of my walking tour which really begins at London's Victoria train station

and that's 15 seconds into the video.

And so from 15 seconds to 17 minutes is the walking tour which is the story which is that it starts

at London Victoria train station and then I take the audience all the way around London with me on this

journey.

So that's this is quite a popular video in the last couple of months I just put this video out maybe

three months ago right.

Anyway so that's what I'm talking about.

It's about teasing the story the very beginning and then dropping into some kind of montage or something

like that and then you go into the story.

That's how I do it.

There's no right or wrong but you really want to try and tease the story and an offer that value proposition

in the first five seconds so essentially I and I'll end with this and this would be the end of the video

so I'll I'll end with this with the note when I structure my logs I don't know what is going to be the

first five to 30 seconds of my vlog until the very end of my editing.

It's almost like you know a book author talking about how they don't they don't usually write the introduction

until the very end.

They don't write they like right.

Chapter two three four five right through and then they go back and write chapter one.

It's almost like this.

That's how I kind of see of log.

I'll go through and I will watch.

I'll go through each of my clips of this is another log that has been sitting here which is on my hard

drive which is why everything's off line but I'll go through and just pretend that my logs actually

here it doesn't say media off line and I'll go through not add not sharp or not I'll chop chop chop

chop chop chop put everything down on the timeline like this and then as I'm editing I'll find a piece

and I'm like wow that that piece that that seven seconds is what I want to put at the very beginning

so I dropped that seven seconds over here in the beginning and then I go over and continue editing editing

editing the story.

And then when I get to the end of my story I then think to myself Okay what do I want the beginning.

What do I want my vlog to start with.

And then I go back and then I think about this piece over here what do I want the first five seconds

to be of my video and then I go straight into my little montage over here and then I go into the beginning

of my story.

So I hope that was helpful I hope that's explained things and that's my style.

But that's what I've been using now for 18 months.
