Matt and the team
have crossed the Rocky Mountains

and are on their way to Canada's
northern oil country.

They hope a region
flush with oil money

will also be rich
in classic cars.

How does it feel to be back?

Narrator: Matt and Steve
spent years in the region

working in the oil fields,
which gives them a head start,

but Grande Prairie

is one of the fastest-growing
cities in Alberta

and a lot has changed
since they were here.

I need a big win this summer.
Where do you go for a big win?

Northern Alberta.

I'm puttin' all my chips
on black.

We're either gonna make it big
or we're gonna go home.

Narrator:
The Grande Prairie region

went from humble homesteading
roots in the late 1800s

to an oil boom
in the mid 1900s.

It was like
a modern day gold rush.

Oil prices soared
and an influx of oil companies

and highly paid
industrial workers

flooded the area
hoping to strike it rich.

This caused
rapid economic development

and many lucky farmers started
receiving fat, monthly cheques

for oil and gas royalties.

Matt is bringing the team

to meet some big time
classic car collectors

at their private museum.

Shawn and Paul are
multigenerational car dealers

who cashed in on the oil boom.

Huge car collectors,
big community orientated,

big business guys.

If anybody knows
where these cars are gonna be,

these guys are our ticket.

- Oh, thank you.

Between the two of us,

This place gives me the shivers.

Shawn: The GS
is a beautiful car.

Ah, it's a gorgeous car, yeah.

- Kinda gangster lookin'.

I grew up in the '60s and '70s
with my dad driving home cars,

Firebirds, Trans Ams, GTOs,

and I remember
being in these cars,

and the sights,
and the sounds,

and the smells
that they gave at the time.

And I'll tell you what.

When you have people
who come in here,

it doesn't matter
what their age is.

They see these old cars
and it evokes memories,

and emotions, and passions.

- Dave: Absolutely.
- Steve: This right here.

Number one choice
in the whole place.

Lee: That's
your number one choice?

- Jess: 1966.
- Lee: Why?

It's 'cause my dad had
the same car of course.

- Aww!

- Wah, wah, wah, wah.
- What?!

Childhood memories of sittin' on
the floor gettin' driven around,

no seatbelts, love it.

- Childhood memories, right?
- Beautiful.

Steve: So this is the car
that turned me

to the Trans Am nut
that I am, in 1973.

What a different place
Grande Prairie

would've looked like back then.

- Oh, yeah.
- Wow.

- We went through lots of booms.
- That's true.

Lots of money.
Lots of oil.

Natural gas was a huge thing
for this area.

- Yeah.
- Yeah, that was a big thing.

In town, we saw a big,
big difference.

So then we literally saw
all the brand names.

Dealerships opened up,
and, you know...

Yeah, the boom began.
You know, like that.

- Yeah, through the course.
- Like a gold rush.

- Black gold rush.
- Yeah, yep.

Now, I love lookin' at
all these cars around this room,

but it just gets me so much more
excited about gettin' out there

and findin' some more,

because there's still
hundreds out there.

So, we gotta giddy up.

Narrator: Matt just needs Shawn
and Paul to share their secrets.

We're out here
huntin' old cars, right,

and you guys
are everything about old cars.

And I gotta ask,
like, where would you go?

Yeah, it's a good question,
Matt.

It's gotten tougher and tougher
over the years,

as Grande Prairie's
prospered, of course.

Now what's happened is there's
been so much development,

so a lot of the places
where the cars used to be,

they're gone now,
and God knows what happened

to those poor cars.

Anywhere near the city outline,
it's not gonna work.

There's gonna be nothin' there.

I know a guy from a car club
named Lawrence.

He might be able
to help you out.

I'll maybe hook you up with him.

- Perfect.

we hunted cars so close

to such a big population, right?

It just doesn't really fit with
our usual MO for hunting cars,

but, but that coupled with
there's so many little towns

on the outskirts,
and these guys,

and their knowledge
of the area...

Like, yeah,
they're a little negative.

I'm hopin'
they're not totally true,

but, I guess we'll find out.

put Dave in touch with Travis

who may have an interesting
vehicle for sale.

- Matt: Is that a '68, Dave?
- Dave: '68.

Convertible too, man.

Oh, it's a Shelby?
No way.

Oh, crap.
It's got the Shelby hood on it.

Then I saw the steering wheel
and it said "Shelby" on it

and everything stopped.

Like, you get the shivers.
You get the cold sweats.

You're like,
"This isn't... nah."

- Wow.
- 350 or 500 Shelby.

- It has a 428 Cobra Jet.
- Yeah, it's the 500.

Crap.
It's a Shelby.

It goes through your blood
because you don't see

a Shelby in a barn,
especially when it's caving in.

What's the story?

The seats look a little off
from... from...

Travis: I honestly don't know.
This is how we picked it up.

It was off the neighbour kid,
and we ended up buyin' it

for a good deal,
and here it sits.

Narrator: 1968 Shelby Cobra 500

is a top dog
when it comes to muscle cars.

It was a road racer
transformed into a daily driver,

with all the bells and whistles,
and a massive engine.

Restored, these cars
easily sell for six figures.

- And the roof's all punched in?
- No, them goats.

- Matt: The goats? (laughing)
- Travis: No.

How long you figure
it's been sittin' here?

- Travis: 27 years.
- Matt: Holy.

There's somethin'
definitely wrong.

It's a Mustang,

standard Mustang body
at the back,

And someone's put
the fenders on, the hood,

some of the dash pieces.

Was this thing rebuilt
and somebody added this on?

Yeah, it's a clone situation.
I guess the guy had two cars.

He actually had a Shelby
and one that was not,

and he crashed his Shelby.

So then, of course, the vents,
the hood, the engine,

steering column.

You know,
I don't know what else.

Bang.

Looks like a Shelby,
but it's a clone.

And somebody found a wreck,
whatever they did,

put these parts on,

and your heart
sinks into your stomach.

Don't get me wrong.

Like, even the way it is
in set up it looks great.

I mean, it's not a true Cobra.

- No.
- Is it for sale?

Anything's for sale, I suppose.

I guess the next question is:
What are you thinkin' on it?

Oh, I'd talk to the boss.
Of course, it's Mum.

I can always lay it on her.
That's a good thing.

But, uh, 15 grand was the idea.

an amazing 1968
Shelby Cobra convertible.

It's an incredible car,

but it's a debate whether it's
worth the money for a clone.

a nice chunk of money restored.

The 428 engine alone
would be worth $15,000.

about that car.

And it's got lots
of Shelby stuff on it.

- It doesn't look too rusty.

But, honestly,
it's not a Shelby.

It's a sick motor though.

I mean, like, it doesn't get
much better than the 428.

The engine, probably the thing
that's worth money.

it's been sitting forever.

- It's probably seized.

If you put another 15 into it,

you're still ending up
with a clone.

Meanwhile, Steve and Jess

I talked to a buddy of mine.

an old truck or an old car.

Narrator: Ken sends Jess
and Steve to check out a truck.

If they want it,
it's theirs.

Ken: It's a 1955 Chevy.

So, I figured
I paid $500 for it,

so I said if I get my $500 back,
that's fine.

And that's somethin'
that I won't need

and hope someone else
appreciates it.

Narrator: Jess and Steve
make their way to the truck

Ken pointed out
at the back of his property.

- Oh, there it is.
- Look at that.

One man's junk is another
person's treasure, Steve.

Steve:

It's like it's lookin' at ya.

It's a great truck.
It's in great shape.

It's all the same year,

Nothing's been really modified.

And where there's supposed
to be rust, there isn't rust.

We'd get the first truck

up a hill using the power wagon.

Steve, I'm just not quite

I feel like the power wagon's

because it goes really fast,

this one as much.

and needed some cash,
had it ever since,

the most iconic year

of muscle car.

is probably
one of the most asked cars

that I ever get called about.

If I were to take 10 phone calls
about people wanting old cars,

nine of them would be
'67 Chevelles.

Question is,
"Which one do you wanna build?"

Well, that's a hard decision.

Well, you can definitely
drive the truck in the winter.

You can't drive the car
in the winter.

Yeah, well, I guess
you'd be towing me out

every five minutes.

the owner of the truck maybe.

So, that's my neighbour's
cars actually,

but he's out of town

Yeah, I got a good relationship

So, the cars have been here
the whole time

It's an SS Car, 327,
decals on the side.

And this thing
is nice and clean too.

It's got its issues
with the corner panels,

but that could be replaced
real quick.

It's a great,
little find actually,

and they're very,
very desirable.

Good lookin' car.

Got the right lines,
right interior.

Everything's going for it.
Hopefully we can buy it.

It's got bucket seats in it.

It's got the SS horn knob.

It's got the "Super Sport"
right by the glove box.

All the right goodies.

It's got the red interior,

which is really cool
with the white.

The 1967 Nova Super Sport

was the last year
of the Chevy Two Series.

Its boxy, classic, clean lines
make it most desirable

to muscle car collectors
all over.

Man, I wish he was around here,

I'd definitely be interested.

if they are for sale, or...

Well, he's interested
in sellin' for the right price,

and he's let me know just
in case someone's pokin' around

when he's not here.

Oh, so he's given you a price
on what he's feeling?

I got prices on all of 'em.

There's no room for negotiation
when you have a middle man.

If we can pick it up for $3,500
that's gonna be excellent.
