All language subtitles for Tool CP

so before class starts

I wanna talk about all the tools

and things you might need to have a successful song

to have a successful time in this class

and I mean you don't really need

you see what's in the background of me right now

there's a lot of stuff here

I've acquired the stuff over many years

maybe hmm six years

you don't really need all the stuff like

you don't need an SP12 hundred to make a drum track

you don't need like

3,000 dollar headphones to track your vocals

you don't need a 17,000 dollar mic to record your stuff

I recorded most of my stuff with my phone

which isn't even a real recording condenser

whatever you wanna call it microphone

you don't need uh

a vintage 1176

you don't need a vintage Neve

uh I've just

I've used uh

plugins for so long

I've just wondered what the real stuff sounds like

so I've acquired some of that stuff

we don't need it to make a hit record

I recorded See You Again with an SM7 microphone

which I got a guitar center

uh for $300

because I recorded that demo

I didn't think I was gonna sing the song

that's a different story uh

so I just quickly recorded the demo on this little uh

uh directional microphone

and I had the Alicia Keys piano plug in from contact

that that was

and then Frankie did all the drums and stuff like that

but that was really the beginning of that record

and that record was huge

and it was not in a fancy situation um

whatsoever I mixed

I mixed attention on one broken rocket speaker

and then later took it to a real studio

and heard all of what needed to be fixed

but the essence of the song was there

in that one speaker

uh you don't need a uh

a real roads

you can get a a

a fake roads for 300 bucks

I know that's a lot of money

but it's something that is

might be worth investing in

because you're gonna use

think about all the songs you can make with that

one plug in

all you really need is something to record with

like a Daw or Pro Tools or Ableton

whatever you use

maybe a mini keyboard

and it doesn't have to be a super like

upside down

latte macchiato

mini keyboard

it could just have

it could just be something to get a Guitar center

or Sam Ash or whatever

or sweet water

this one is like 99 bucks

so Lisa's um headphones

these are gross

at this point

they have uh

they're squeaky

I get all the sweets

and the microphone

I should probably get new ones

I think these are like hundred

20 bucks um

the one thing that I will say

as far as plugins go

I think waves is very important

I know there's very

very expensive packages

but if you get the CLA package

I think that's a really good place to start

cause it's just so like

it uses the least amount of CPU

and you can just get stuff down very quickly um

maybe a reverb plugin

so for plugins

keyboard plugin

Reaver plugin

compressor package plugin

um and maybe

I mean there's so many great companies out there

that make I mocks of these

Juno sense and I

you can reach out to them too

if you have a following online

you could be like

I will promote you guys

and they're usually gonna send you their plugins I

if you play guitar

just get a little guitar

and don't worry about having

the most expensive equipment

I didn't have the most expensive equipment

when I was making music at Berkeley

I just built it over

over years and stuff

you're gonna have forever to

everything that you might need in this class

is in this list

right below this video

some cheaper options

some more expensive options

whatever you think you might need

this is everything that I recommend to you

but make sure you get it before day 1 of the class

so you come fully prepared
