got an ice maker for you on a

side-by-side Whirlpool refrigerator

first thing I always like to do is check

to make sure if there's any frozen water

inside there if there's any ice in there

and this one is empty so first thing I

noticed is that water tube that sticks

down below I mean it's a bit further out

than what it's supposed to be and

whenever I felt it I mean it was hard

what that tells me is there's frozen or

water got into that line and it's frozen

and what usually causes that is a

weeping water valve what you can think

of it as is whenever this water valve is

just sitting there still not doing

anything there's just a steady drip

going through it's like a drip drip drip

and then eventually it gets to this tube

and you see it a little bit I mean it's

not a good angle but there's frozen

water inside that water too so we're

gonna go ahead and swap out this water

valve first thing you'll do is turn off

the water

then unplug it and then after we unplug

it we're gonna get to this water valve

we've got some quarter-inch screws that

hold on this cardboard in the back here

so we're gonna get this panel off

and this water valve is down here on the

right there's two more quarter-inch

screws I know you guys can't see it very

well but once I get these screws out I'm

gonna pull this water valve out and

you'll be able to see it part number is

whiskey one zero four zero eight one

seven nine on this model here this is a

an older valve and it's last time quite

a while but here's the the box of the

new valve comes with some new water line

if you need it and then the water valve

itself and what you do is you just swap

the water lines over from the old valve

to the new valve and that's pretty much

it so yeah so we're gonna go ahead and

just swap out these water lines

I will say whenever you pulled these

water lines off some waters in the

reservoir some waters in the line going

up to the icemaker so you either want to

have a towel underneath or you or do

what I'm doing and just hold the end of

the water tube with your thumb and

that'll prevent most of the water from

exiting so you're not making too much of

a mess but as long as you do that I mean

it's pretty self-explanatory yeah that

thing just spit at us right there but

got my thumb holding it and then

plugging it in but we're gonna finish

putting in this morning valve and those

wire harnesses let me mention this real

quick they only go on one way you got

some smaller terminals and then you got

bigger terminals and you can put the

bigger one on the smaller one but you

can't put the smaller one on the bigger

one so you really can't get this wrong

but once you swap the harnesses and

water lines over you're gonna screw the

water valve back into place and you're

gonna put that back panel back on - or

you can keep that back panel off turn

the water on and make sure there's no

leaks before you know you button it up

and everything because you don't want to

replace the floor after you replace this

water bath yourself so make sure there's

no leaks then put that panel back on but

anyways I'm gonna go ahead and put this

thing back on and everything but yeah

stay tuned for some tips after you get

this water valve on because we're gonna

on this particular model there's a

certain way to cycle the icemaker and

I'm gonna show you guys how to get rid

of that ice that's in that water tube an

easy way so you guys can you know knock

it out yourself

anyways stay tuned for that

all right we still have frozen water in

this tube up here and how we're gonna

get rid of it is we're gonna make pretty

much a water pump take a 20 ounce bottle

of Mountain Dew or water or whatever it

is turn on the hot water to get the

water hot and you take the cap and you

want to make about a quarter-inch hole

or a little bit smaller than a quarter

inch hole so you can stick that extra

quarter inch line that came in this box

with that water valve and stick it

through that hole to make a water pump

and what you'll do once that water is

hot and you put it in the bottle and you

put the cap on and the tube is all the

way down to the bottom you're going to

you know just squeeze that bottle and

that hot water is gonna come out and

what we're gonna do is put that tube

next to that tube where that ice is and

we're gonna you know just squeeze the

bottle that hot water get up in there

and get rid of that ice that's an easy

way for you guys to do it at home but

that's how we're gonna get rid of that

ice and then after we get rid of that

ice we're gonna cycle the ice maker and

I'll show you guys how to do that after

we clear this doing it this way you do

want to have a paper towel or a towel

underneath it cuz water is gonna go

everywhere if you don't so this will

minimize a mess if you guys do it like

I'm doing it here but I'm just gonna

keep pushing that water through and

pushing that tube up until all that ice

is gone

pretty much all the way up until it

stops you know melting the ice and then

you're pretty much at the corner of it

and so we're gonna finish you know

clearing this ice and then we'll get to

cycling the ice maker and making sure

that thing's all nice and clear so we'll

just finish this up and pick up whatever

it's time to cycle

all right ice is clear so we're gonna go

ahead and plug this guy in turn on the

water whenever you turn on the power or

whenever you plug it back in

sometimes this icemaker go ahead and

start so you do want to check that after

you plug in power and make sure that ice

maker is moving if it's moving you won't

have to jump it like I am now

but this jumper wire I'm jumping it

between the T and the H and you can

pretty much just think about that as the

start button

just remember to jump it between T and D

H but I'm putting this guy back into

place here so I can shut this door

because you do want the door shut

whenever you or either tape the switches

down or shut the door because you want

all those switches closed or all the

switches engaged whenever you're doing

this but you want to unplug the unit

wait 15-20 seconds plug it back in go

back over to where the icemaker is and

then see if it's moving and you just got

to take a look at it

cuz it'll it'll move slowly and if you

see that blinking light on the right

hand side there that's saying hey

there's power getting to the icemaker

so the icemaker should be moving and now

this icemaker is moving it's moving very

slowly but we're gonna put this cover

back on so whatever this thing does fill

up with water we don't have to get it

back out and put the panel or put that

cover back on and then get water under

we're in the process of doing it so take

that jumper wire out get the cover back

on after she's moving but once we're

here and she's moving we just got to

wait for her to make it cycle and then

at the very end of it it should feel

it'll fill up with water you'll see it

come in out of that black tube off of

the right there and in this case it

filled up perfectly and this customer

hasn't called back so we know that the

fix the issue and yeah that's pretty

much it for this as long as you get this

thing the cycle and fill up with water

it should do it automatically if it

doesn't make make it automatically after

that make sure she's still feeling

filling properly and if there's ice in

the mold you got a bad ice maker then go

ahead and order one of those then you

have to do this again but anyways this

thing is about to fill with water

she is almost done with her cycle boom

there she is she's filling up with water

and out and that's it so we're gonna put

this cover where you get that harness

off and then that's it after we get that

cover on she's fixed she's finished

that's all you got to do to change out a

water valve you may be able to just let

this thing sit and you know it may make

a nice eventually but if you're a

technician like me I like to go ahead

and knock it out and get it done but
