There's so much beautiful
prose in Anne's work,

and we wanted to figure out a way

to get some of that into the show,

so we thought it was a very
interesting way to be able to

get into the interior life of Claudia.

That was the quickest,
easiest, dirtiest way.

Claudia: I closed my eyes and
waited for the fire to take me too.

That's when the Black angel came.

I think the room was very, very excited

to try to switch point of views

and really be the story of the
young girl and let her own it,

so the voice-over changes,
and the perspective changes.

All these half-hour comedies
have a great way of doing it.

They have these fake
documentaries where they can

turn to the camera and tell you
exactly how you're feeling.

That's our equivalent here.

And then I tasted it,

and right away I felt
strong as a streetcar.

Enough!

I think she's just trying
to figure it out.

"I can leap and I can
kill and I got power".

In the novel, she is without a doubt

the most vampire out of both of them.

She's a pretty dark killer.

What would it be like to be
trapped in the chemical stew

of puberty for your entire existence?

In our Claudia, I think there's
something precocious about her,

but there's also something
that has been sheltered.

There is a lack of wisdom
and world experience

that goes there that makes it
a very toxic and volcanic

and potentially explosive little
suitcase bomb of a vampire.

We are looking at the portrait
of the troubled teen.

The idea of a sexual awakening
in the midst of this,

unfortunately, in the confines
of our story,

your first date becomes
your first homicide.
