The first memories of singing
I had was at school.

I started doing a lot
of amateur dramatics and theatre.

I was that kid
who always tried to make a show.

Towards the end of secondary school,
I kept kind of pushing

for more singing parts,
more dancing.

Erm, it didn't go so well.

I was told that I'm not good enough,

I don't have the right image, that
I'm not cut out for this business,

and it really knocked my confidence.

My friend
was running an open-mic night,

and without telling me,

she just announced
that I was gonna go up and sing.

As soon I did it, I remembered
everything I loved about music.

with confidence issues.

I think for me, the biggest thing

your singing. When did you start?

I started doing sort of
musicaltheatre when I was a kid.

Ancl then I did, erm, a competition
and was told, you know,

"You don't have the right image,
you're never gonna make it."

Erm... and I stopped
for about three or four years.

Ancl it's only because my friend
I brought with me today,

she... yeah,
she got me back into it, and, erm...

She's here with you now?

that it's not about image anyway.
