I've been touring.

I'm a demo singer
for a lot of people, as well.

a long journey.

It hasn't been easy.

I've been in Nashville
for 16 years,

but I am
a full-time touring artist.

I played 117 shows last year,

solo acoustic in
almost all 50 states.

We are not in Nashville
anymore, y'all.

I mean, there was days
I was just about to lose it,

but I've been very blessed
because my parents have been

my rocks in a really,
really hard industry.

I want the world to see
how well this girl can do.

I hope that I can use
this platform

to be a successful artist,
as well.

I think the whole experience

Ian: A current day in my life
kind of looks like school

at Columbus State University,

and then I work at a bar
through the weekends

and, really, music just fits
somewhere in between that.

My name is Ian Harrison,

I'm 20 years old,
and I'm from Columbus, Ohio.

My genre is alternative indie.

And I will be singing "The Night
We Met" by Lord Huron.

This song is
pretty important to me.

It's about feeling
someone growing apart from you,

feeling the connection that you
once had start to fade away.

I relate to this song
because my dad passed away

when I was 9 years old.

My dad and I
were very close.

There was one tradition we had
where we'd wake up early

in the morning
before my siblings.

He'd take me
on his motorcycle,

and we'd go get breakfast
before any of them got up.

There was a time where I'd have
memories of him being around

and then they all just
kind of vanished one day and...

Yeah.

My dad took his own life
in 2011.

And I think
if I were older then,

I would've seen signs,
I would've known,

but being too young
to understand how he felt,

how he was feeling,
makes it really tough.

It was a difficult time,

but after a year, my adopted dad
entered our lives.

He was very good about
making sure that we all felt

loved and needed.

My dad, when I got
his guitar after he died,

there were notes
in the guitar case.

Growing up in Miami,

It's like a whirlwind.
We live life intensely --

dance a lot, drink a lot.

We have a lot of fun.

Cubans usually listen to
a lot of salsa,

a lot of reggaeton.

That's the typical Cuban music,

but since
I was in middle school,

I've had a love
for country music

and it always
kind of spoke to me,

especially
the storytelling in it.

And so I started a band.

It was insane to see how many

I was performing on stage,

My mother would pick me up
every day after school.

My favorite memories of my mom.

She was officially diagnosed

with what's called
early onset Alzheimer's

when she was 51 years old.

She passed in 2019.

One moment I remember

My mother took one step inside.

was present.

She started trying to talk
and dance and smile.

And so I grabbed her
by the hand,

And she leaned in and she said,

And I was like, "Whoa."

I have always heard about
the power of music.

I just didn't really understand
what it was until this moment.

first started music
