that toured a second-rate

Sweet William was a boy dummy.

And there was a girl assistant.

But at least I had a name.

to dig up this picture out of the police files.

just to carve her hands.

the puppet in my arms.

the tiny hand moved.

and pliable and warm.

And, then, the little head

half-opened again.

And I bent my head to hear.

to put my ear on that block of wood and hear a heartbeat!
