Decreased skin elasticity

is one of the main symptoms of skin aging

Skin with less elasticity is prone to wrinkles and stretched skin

Then how do we measure skin elasticity?

For example, when you pinch the back of your hand

force on the hand causes deformation

and as you let go, the skin tries to go back to its former shape

As more elastic the skin is

the higher viscoelasticity of the skin
that tries to return to its origianl shape

Therefore, elasticity measurement uses the equipment 'Cutometer'

that was designed based on these concept

It measures skin viscoelasticity

which is skin resistance and elasticity to return to the initial position

by giving certain amount of pressure to the skin

It is usually used to check

elasticity on skin surface (external elasticity), skin tightening,

and to mitigate skin surface sagging

Also, to check skin elasticity

we use equipment called 'Dermal torgue meter' as well

It can check skin resiliency

after putting force and removing it from skin

For this equipment

it adjusts the gap between the twisting forces

and it can put the twisted force on the deeper skin layer

so it is usually used to find deeper elasticity

As such, elasticity can be measured in different ways
