In recent weeks, my department
has been overrun with reports

of strange and unusual activity
that we just can't explain.

The people down here
are looking for answers,

so we're gonna try something
that we've never tried before.

We've got a team of some
of the best

paranormal investigators
in the country.

Is there a negative entity here?

And if this
paranormal team can't figure out

what's going on down here,
we're in a lot of trouble.

The hauntings in St. Mary Parish
are actually escalating,

and we're trying
to find connections

as to what might
be causing them.

But these emergency calls
have us

ping-ponging around the parish,
and it makes it really difficult

to try and find
any specific patterns.

And now the Franklin PD
is receiving reports

of paranormal activity, too.

Look, we've been getting
all kind of calls.

And we actually have
a detective that

we have assigned to the case.

This paranormal stuff
is something

that's way, way strange for us.

We normally have the felony type
of crimes and misdemeanors.

This is way beyond
what we can handle.

So, I'll introduce you
to Detective Sylve.

What's going on?

The Allain House, which is
a house here in town...

Okay.
The owner, Ms. Kay,

said that she witnessed
a full-body apparition

a handful of times.

But there's also been
some other calls on Irish Bend

that I think you guys
would be interested in.

Okay. So, this is called
the Allain Plantation?

Yes, sir. It has
a little Cajun spin on it

with the "Allai" Plantation.

Being that Franklin
is a very historic town,

we get a bunch of weird calls
at these old plantation homes.

When I first responded
to Ms. Kay's house,

she was really worked up
and really concerned.

Is she available
to talk to directly?

She's actually not in town.

Her husband's very ill,

and she didn't want him
to experience

any of the ghostly
activities going on.

Oh, okay.
But she did leave me

with video testimony
of her experience.

Well, why don't we take a look
at it and see what she said?

so that there is documentation

of the odd events
that are going on in my home.

I did not believe in ghosts
at all until these events,

but I do now.

Recently, I started
to see a ghost.

He was wearing
a Civil War uniform.

He looked like a teenage boy.

Best way I can describe him
is a soldier with a limp,

like maybe he'd been wounded.

I'm afraid if my husband,
who isn't well,

gets wind of what's going on
in our home,

won't be able to handle it.

So, I've got to get him
out of the house.

Please try and find out
what's going on

in our house while we're gone.

So, this is kind of new to us,

having a witness give
their testimony by video.

It takes away a lot of the
observation and interaction.

We have a lot of good
information to start this case,

but we have some missing parts,

which means we're gonna
have to connect

a lot of those dots ourselves.

This particular plantation,
about how far away is it?

No more than five minutes
from here.

Detective Sylve has offered
to drive me

over to the plantation home.

I'm gonna meet the rest
of my team there.

We're gonna do a baseline sweep
to see what we're dealing with.

How big is Franklin?

Franklin isn't
really big at all.

It has a population of
about 7,500 people. Okay.

Very small-knit community.
Everyone knows everybody.

So, has anything like this
happened in Franklin before

or did these calls just
recently start coming in?

They come, like, in waves.

A lot of the calls
have been coming

from the battlefield
of Irish Bend.

What do most people say
when they call up?

Most of the calls
has been, like,

there's someone in the house.

They think it's an actual person

or someone
outside of their house.

And then when we get there,
there's no one.

So, it's something, not someone.

Louisiana has a lot of old homes
with a lot of history,

so it really doesn't surprise me

that this is the second time
we've been called out

to investigate
a haunted plantation.

The Allain House looks a lot
like the Idlewild Plantation

where we captured
an apparition of a nurse

from the yellow-fever epidemic.

pick up on any anomalies

that might help us verify

if the ghost of this soldier
is haunting this home.

Ms. Kay's bedroom.

When I came here, she showed me

that once she stepped
out of here,

actually in that area
of that cabinet

she saw the figure
standing there.

And then he went
and disappeared into the wall.

And what's on
the other side of that?

Stepping out, I turn and look,

and I see a man who is
in a Civil War uniform.

And he makes eye contact
with me.

And as I make eye contact,

he suddenly turns
and walks with a limp

and vanishes
straight into the wall.

I'm scared.

How far is this
from where she's standing?

It's probably only about...

I could never live
in this house.

The energy here,
it feels so heavy.

As I'm walking through
these rooms,

it's like walking through mud.

a haunted plantation home

where the homeowner
was so terrified of the ghost

of a Civil War soldier

that her and her husband
have vacated the home.

is they had something

going on in this house,

the historic registry,

who this ghost soldier is

and why he might be
haunting this location.

Franklin is the oldest town
in St. Mary Parish

that was incorporated.
Thus it became our parish seat.

The Allain House
was built in 1832

and is actually the oldest house
in the town of Franklin.

Really?
Yeah.

I knew it was really old,

but the oldest
in the whole town.

So, in 1863 then,
the Union soldiers come

in to the Allain House,

and they seize
that piece of property,

and it became a housing station
for their soldiers.

The Union soldiers
stayed upstairs,

and their horses and everything
stayed downstairs.

Wait, what?
Yeah.

That's what I kept hearing,
was bringing the horses closer,

bringing the horses in.

I didn't understand
that, though.

I couldn't fathom when we were
at the house why...

Why we would need
to bring the horses in.

Why would they put them inside?

I mean, isn't there a place
for horses outside?

Well, there is,
but you have to think, now,

the Union soldiers
are on whose territory?

They're on Confederate.
They're on Confederate.

And they have to protect
their transportation.

Now, in 1863, we had,
in our area,

and here you see on our map,
the Battle of Irish Bend.

And the reason it's called
that is you see

the waterway here
as the Bayou Teche

traversed around here,
you have a little bend.

It's right there. Where
is Irish Bend exactly?

Across from the Allain House.

Really?

What's significant
about the Battle of Irish Bend,

it was fought only a few miles
away from the Allain House,

plus the uniform that Kay
described matches

that of a Union soldier.

So, there's a good chance
that she's seeing the apparition

of a Union soldier that
was killed during that battle.

Fall back! Fall back!

The Battle of Irish Bend
was the bloodiest battle

they fought here in Louisiana.

Boys, let's go!

It was so many dead bodies
stacked on Irish Bend Road,

they say the earth itself
ran red with blood.

353 soldiers died and,
to this day,

a lot of people believe
that their spirits

still march across the
battlefields of old Franklin.

What happened to all of those
Union soldiers bodies?

They were buried
in a trench in St. Mary Parish.

Is it possible then that he was
one of these Union soldiers

that was killed in Irish Bend

and then was buried
in that trench?

But then the question would be

why would his spirit
be there in the house?

Well, because maybe
he was headquartered there.

That was, like,
his assignment at that house.

But for me, like...
it really matters the way

someone's laid to rest.

When a person doesn't receive
a proper burial,

the spirit may end up in limbo.

This could be why
I was picking up on

this really sad energy
at the Allain House.

Why this one particular soldier?

Why wouldn't there be sightings
of different soldiers?

I feel like this soldier might
be stuck in a residual loop.

A residual haunting
is almost like a film loop.

It plays a traumatic event
over and over again

in the same location where
the traumatic event occurred.

I honestly would love to get
near this trench

and be able to tap in
and see what I get.

The only person that might
be able to lead you

to where this trench is would be

the former mayor of Franklin,
Sam Jones.

All right, well,
it seems like our work

is cut out for us.

Over 300 soldiers
were killed in this battle.

But we do have some clues
to help us identify

which soldier might be
haunting Kay's home.

We know he was a very young
Union soldier and he had a limp,

and it's very likely
that he was injured or killed

in the Battle of Irish Bend.

the description of the soldier

to an actual name

track down Sam Jones

to see if we can find
this trench

where the soldiers were buried.

that this is the spot?

Ironically never marked it.

It just got passed down
from generation to generation.

When I was a young kid,

my grandfather would
bring me out here

and we'd hunt rabbits and stuff.

And one day he stoked up
the conversation and said,

"You know, a bunch of
Union soldier were buried here."

dips right here...

See how it kind of dips there
and then goes back up?

Throughout the years,
did you ever hear

of any strange occurrences
or things

that people would talk about
just being out here in the land?

People claim they hear
lots of things...

A groan in the night, like,
an agonizing pain, you know?

Like a pain of people
perhaps dying here.

Or not having wanted
to die here.

So, we're headed out
into the cane field

where the bodies
of these Union soldiers,

300 to 400 of them,

were basically dumped
in a trench and covered over.

It's fluctuating.

There's definitely still
energies here.

There's definitely
still bodies here.

The meter's spiking.

They're coming.
They're just...

They're literally
just walking over to us.

And it's amazing, but I'm, like,
they're just kind of standing.

The homeowner
of the Allain Plantation

has been seeing the ghost
of a Civil War soldier

who may have died
during a famous battle

just outside of Franklin.

There's definitely
still energies here.

There's definitely
still bodies here.

I'm picking up
on multiple spirits here,

so I'm not sure which one might
be haunting Kay's house,

but I'm starting to feel
that same heavy sadness.

It's the exact same feeling
I had at the Allain House.

If he's here, then why
is he visiting Kay's house,

and why is he so sad?

There might be a message
he's trying to give

or an attachment
to her or the place.

Or something that she owns.

Right.

I do think there is a spirit
of a young soldier here

that is caught
in some residual loop

that starts at Kay's house
and ends here.

But the thing is, is, like,

we're missing
what happened in between.

I would like to check out

where the battle
actually took place.

The battlefield's
right over there.

It's the one place where
there's actually a marker.

I'd like to see that.

the description of the soldier,

he was a very young soldier,
possibly a Union Army soldier,

possibly killed in
the Battle of Irish Bend.

on the Battle of Irish Bend.

We found information
on a lot of soldiers.

But many of the soldiers
who fought in this battle

weren't actually from Louisiana.

They were shipped here
from other states,

or some of them marched
hundreds of miles

from their homes up North.

So, that makes it even harder
to identify our guy.

where they were buried.

So, the Allain Plantation
is only about a mile

and a half from the battlefield.

an energetic imprint behind.

of the young soldier is here,

is to find out who he is
and what he's looking for.

I felt like he wanted to leave
this place, and he couldn't.

From the way that Margie's
explaining her experience,

you can tell
she's very intuitive.

It's what we call an empath.

And that gives us
invaluable insight

to why the ghost of this
young soldier might be here.

He never wanted to be
a part of any of this.

I got the feeling
he was forced into it

either by family or whatever.

But for some reason,
he was here,

he never wanted to be here,
and now he can't leave.

He wanted to go home.

Well, we find a young man
that joined the Union Army

who was stationed
at the Allain House

and died during the Battle
of Irish Bend.

of all of the Union soldiers

that were part of
the 159th Brigade from New York.

"R.L. Kipp."

that took over the plantation?

That's exactly right.

17 years old.
Have I got that right?

Here's the way this story
goes in our research.

Get this.

Robert Kipp was a simple boy
who lived with his parents

and helped them on the farm
in Greenport, New York.

He was only 16 years old

when he joined the Union Army
in September of 1862.

Only a few months
after Robert Kipp

enlisted
with the 159th Regiment,

he would fight in the infamous
Battle of Irish Bend.

17-year-old Robert Kipp
was shot in the leg...

♪♪

And became
one of the 353 Union soldiers

who lost their lives.

♪♪

The Union Army,

they travel along what's called
the Old Spanish Trail

along the waterway
that leads there.

Wait a second.
You said Spanish Trail.

Yes, I did.
That's not the first time

we've ever heard
of the Old Spanish Trail.

We have the Old Spanish Trail,
all right?

It comes down, it follows
through there just like this.

Our first case, Morgan City,

involving the ghost
of Ada LeBeouf.

Our second case, Patterson,

where we had the spirits
of a father

and a daughter
who were killed by a train.

We have our third case,
also in Patterson,

involving the ghost of a nurse
from the yellow fever epidemic.

But let's not forget
about Kamikaze Island,

where we have the ghost of
pirate Lafitte and his crewmen.

And then Franklin, okay?

So, every case that we've done
is right on

or near the Old Spanish Trail.

How old is this Spanish Trail?

I'm gonna say the early 1700s.

It was used by
the Native Americans

to hunt and trap and settle.

It was used
by the conquistadors,

the Spanish
who came along this way.

And it was used by the soldiers.

So, you're talking about an area
that's traversed

that has a lot
of bloodshed on it.

Could it be, like,
a conveyer of energy?

If you think about it,
the Old Spanish Trail

could be harnessing this energy
from all the traumatic things

that have happened
over the years.

This is the waterway.

It's almost like it's acting

like some sort
of astral superhighway.

We now have a lot
more information.

I think this merits going back
to the Allain House

and doing
a proper investigation.

I'm hoping that solving
the haunting at the Allain House

will give us more clues
as to what's stirring up

the paranormal activity
through the parish

and whether it's actually
related to the Old Spanish Trail

or it's something else entirely.

out if that's why his spirit
