Now, let's watch someone who really can play.

We have an increasing budget deficit in the supermarket.

This is because some people don't have the ressources to pay.

Consequently our current short term deficit is 50,000 DKK

But off course we will find a way to fix this issue.

If we include the scheduled surplus our deficit is in the vicinity of 100,000.

So it's quite important to discuss how we turn this tendency.

Let's discuss a reorganization of the supermarket and the cash register system.

Let's realize that some people need to go back to Copenhagen and earn some money.

These issues need our immediate attention.

The budget deficit in the supermarket is a result of some peoples week ideological beliefs.

Some people think that since the supermarket belongs to someone else

then there is no reason to show solidarity.

Those people are overestimating the capabilities of the supermarket.

The purpose of the supermarket is to obtain supplies for almost 2000 people

and in addition to provide a few jobs for the less fortunate of this camp.

Since this is not working, I'm offering you the opportunity to help reorganizing the supermarket.

You are getting ahead of yourself.

You may be right with regards to the lack of political solidarity

but we need to discuss the reasons for this missing solidarity.

Yesterday for instance we notorically had to return a 30,000 order.

These are the naked facts. We've never had a successful balanced budget.

Then let me offer an opportunity for those who have an interest, i.e. the people who live here

even those who have no money.

If we can make this work, if we can make a surplus, then we have the opportunity

to provide for the poor who cannot provide for themselves and make them stay with us.

This is a crude matter of making things work.

I think we need to emphasize what Fred ultimately said.

We must invest the surplus in those who have no money

because first then is the supermarket in reality driven by ideological beliefs.

But this is not news. The only thing we need to change is the efficiency.

And this is excactly the core of our issues.

Everybody talks about community and about solidarity but who is really doing anything?

I find it reasonable that any one who criticizes has an obligation to participate in the community.

I have never shown any solidarity for this community. On the contrary.

I have done everything in my power to tear apart the current structure

in order to build a new one with which I could sympathize.

And this has been my only social effort in this camp.

That is also true for my work on the paper these last 4 or 5 days.

And I will procede working against the community until we find a better solution.

Until then my sympathies lie with those who steal from the supermarket.

I have a question.

For as long as we have been here, some people have taken responsibilities that ...

I agree with Henning. Reorganizing the supermarket is probably a superior economic solution

but it will not change our fundamental issues with alienation and the lack of solidarity.

And we need to find a solution to these problems as well.

When people are excited about their business, their business' go well.

This applies to those who make micro-macro food

and it applies to those in charge of the beer sale. Why is no one excited for milk and butter?

I'm really excited for this camp. I mean, if people are excited for this camp

then they need to be excited working at the cash register in order to make the camp survive.

So instead of being angry with each other, why are we not excited and happy for this camp?

All these queues are very characteristic for the camp. You always have to stand in line.

A lot of people talk about it, but I fail to see what's all the fuss is about.

Do they behave nicely?

- I think the problem is primarily with the locals.

The camp people behave themselves just fine compared to our local old drunks.

Some of us locals are not really behaving like good examples.

Back home there are lots of practical issues. It's much easier to casually swing by a tent.

So do I. Especially as a lot of the other couples up here live close to where we live back home.

It's a funny coincidence. In our camp here, most of the people come from Holte and Virum

and Bagsvaerd. And Lyngby like us.

Most of the people up here are dissatisfied with how life and living is back home.

That's why they come up here to experiment with alternative ways of living.

Up here we do things together. We wipe our kids' asses together, cook food together and so on.

This idea of one large community is preferred over the smaller communities.

The smaller communities usually end up quite isolated.

As I was saying the supermarket is structured such that

the first day, there was one team, the second day there was another and the third yet another.

You see? Consequently no one got bored with taking turns in the supermarket.

And it's really been quite effective. We were up at 4 am for our shift during our holiday!

Ehh, I believe this is somehow the realization of the younger Karl Marx.

Karl Marx was inspired by Charles Fourier. Do you know him? A French utopian socialist.

I was introduced to Fourier through Marcuse.

Kai Moltke was criticising Marcuse in Information [newspaper].

Apparently Marcuse was quoted in Paris

expressing his sympathies for Charles Fourier.

Since Moltke didn't support Marcuse's views, then automatically I liked them.

So I began to study Herbert Marcuse.

It turned out that Charles Fourier was the origin of an early Marx quote

in which Marx explicitly states that:

The ultimate goal is, that in the morning we're e.g. building boats

in the afternoon we're timber merchants

in the evening we're librarians

and at night we're poets. Or at least that's the essence.

And that's the point. I'm building a supermarket. When will I ever get to do that again?

This paper still has some significance because it contemplates the camp after Sept. 5.

A lot of people are working on sketches on permanent houses.

Houses which will keep quite a few people warm during the winter.

And even more important they are working on a production community.

In contrast to what this camp have been so far

a capital importing community

people are currently working on a different structure

which includes the possibility of producing and selling our own goods inside the camp.

This perspective is a major political concern

for the people with significant political ambitions in the camp.

There is room for 4 or 5 people in there.

It's not set in stone how many. Besides no one lives here permanently yet since it's not ready.

But once it's ready we'll be 5 og 6 people living here.

How will you survive?

Ehh, we'll eat. Isn't that obvious?

- Micro macro food?
- Yes, or a vegetarian diet. I'm a vegetarian.

But obviously we need to produce something in the community.

We need to buy food since it isn't free.

- What will you produce?
- I don't know.

- What do your friends say?
- They have different ideas.

Among other things some want to produce leather clothing.

- Who are you going to sell them to?
- The 'old' society.

- Are you going to live here through the winter?
- I would like to, yes.

- Why?

You are in closer contact with those who surrounds you and everything is less destructive.

Right now things are not going well because it's still not a fully functional community.

It's still just a summer camp or a festival.

In 1968 students in Paris gathered 10 million workers primarily by talking to them.

Thy Summer Camp has talked to many people during this summer.

Most of these people have returned with a new perspective on life.

They will have a hard time readapting to the bureaucracy

the arrogance, bad vibrations, and wage slavery.

I finish my article saying: 'You see my friends. These things are dangerous.'

People who try to enjoy themselves are dangerous.

According to you do we need to adapt to the society or the machinery?

That's a common question. It's being discussed all the time.

You see, there have been a couple of incidents with so called crazy people.

And some of us tried to approach these situations from another angle.

What if, in fact, 'we' were the crazy people?

There was this girl for instance who had the notion that the new society had to be clean.

So she started fires everywhere. Including some tents. Obviously that caused a little smoke.

Finally people got nervous. But the funny part is that most people where more mad than she was.

They exaggerated, do you remember Jesper? They wanted her commited to an asylum.

That's the 'normal' reaction, to cut away the sickness.

- In the end she stayed and had a great time.

Let them worry about that. It's their problem that they run around and want to fight everybody.

We have to calm down and decide whether we are strong enough to lose a political struggle.

And whether these rebels have to leave so they don't ruin the possibilites for this camp.

There are lots of opportunities for those who need the action. e.g. blow up a prison.

But keep it out of this camp.

Are there any craftsmen? Does anybody want to help rebuilding the house of the Lord?

You're not putting it right. This is not the house of the Lord. This is their house!

I spoke with the mayor a month ago and he's been a big support for our camp.

He said: 'If I could take some days off, I would stay in your camp.'

This is perhaps the strongest support we could hope for.

The chief of police told me the same thing by the way.

Yesterday the mayor said to me that this must not go any further.

The mayor's political opponents, who are against our camp are increasingly popular.

In other words, if he keeps supporting us, he's finished in politics.

It will most definitely affect the possibilities for the scheduled winter community.

We only have one opportunity, and that is to reestablish the good relations to our neighbors.

Whether we support what those people did yesterday it's ultimately a question about

whether the winter community can survive or not.

It annoys me personally that we have to pay 5000 DKK to the Danish church.

Let me read out loud once more.

On Sept. 1, at 11 o'clock there was a meeting in the summer camp at Froestrup.

We decided the following:

the residents of the summer camp understand

the exasperation the occupation of the local church has caused.

We are aware that we've violated the citizen's feelings towards something that is dear to them.

We know that we need to respect what's yours as well as you need to respect what's ours

that is our camp and our way of living

in hopes that we can continue living side by side in mutual respect for each other.

It's come to our knowledge that the priest of Hjardemaal has started a fundraising

to pay for the damages inflicted on the church.

Like everybody else we would like to contribute and we have collected, ehh about 5 thousa...

But what's coming out of all this is very hard to tell. It all depends on those people.

And what they are going to do when they get home.

But of course we do take things a little to the extreme.

And those discussions are absolutely necessary.

About what's expanding your mind and so on.

But ultimately this is a discussion about people taking responsibility for their actions.

The most beautiful thing I have discovered up here is that there are no 'normal' human beings.

For instance back home we always categorize people.

But up here there's been such an intensity. People have gone straight to the core.

They have participated in the community.

And when you work together you get to know people a lot better.

Then you suddenly realize that people in fact are gifted and that they have much more to offer

...than meets the eye. Of course it is difficult with a summer camp like this.

The impact most likely wont be as big as we hope for.

When the bourgeoisie comes up up here we would like to change their perspective a bit.

I know it's most likely in vain we hope to change people in 14 days.

It's simply an impossible task even for the most religiously educated people.
