rather like this one in
Robert Louis Stevenson's story.

and after all it was Christmas Eve.

But the Christmas spirit seems
strange and dark in Markheim.

Seemed to be more interested
in taking than giving.

Well, perhaps he wanted
to satisfy the inner man.

The trouble with Markheim's
inner madness

was that he wouldn't stay in.

(door knocking)

(gentle somber music)

(horses trotting)

- Please, sir.
You got a penny, sir?

- Away with you.
I haven't any change.

- Spare me a penny, sir.

A Penny, sir?

- I am not Father Christmas.
- Spare a penny, sir?

Oh, please just spare
a penny for Christmas.

- [Man] Go away.

It's Christmas time,

have no food in the house.
