To me he was just Hal.

When I tried to imagine
what I might say or today,

all I could come up
with were questions.

How do you honor a man
who changed your life?

How do you sum up a
life so fully lived?

In a few choice words, Hal
had hero blood in his veins.

He lived to serve.

Hal believed in the
bond of men and women

who served together as a team.

He believed that
everything we do

we do it for the person
on the right of us,

person on the left.

Hal and fellow
fireman Alfonso Rivera

heroically answered a call in
the Catalina fire last week.

It's because of Hal's god-given
instincts and Rivera's selfless

act [inaudible] is
alive here today.

Saf3 was Hal's brainchild.

He understood the importance
of interagency cooperation.

Being a SEAL, working
at fire, water, and air,

the five divisions come together
to improve life-saving efforts.

Hal handpicked each one of us.
